Unravelling the spatiotemporal component of carrier-mediated nutrient transport in roots
Within the roots, nutrients are transported from the epidermis to the vasculature through a combination of three pathways; the apoplastic, the symplastic and the coupled transcellular pathways. These three pathways require carriers in different cell types to allow nutrients to enter the symplasm. Due to the lack of information for most nutrient carriers’ localization, the radial transport of nutrient is still poorly understood. To tackle this issue, I generated a developmental map of the main nutrient carriers in roots. This map will be used to untangle the contributions of the different cell layers in nutrient uptake and generate genetic tools to manipulate nutrient uptake at the cellular level. Also, my investigations shed light on the relation between suberin and nutrient carrier’s localization.
