STOP1-ALMT1-LPR1, a new signalling pathway inhibiting root growth in low-phosphate
When grown on a low-phosphate (-Pi) medium, the Arabidopsis primary root growth is inhibited as a consequence of reduced cell elongation and proliferation. This inhibition depends of iron, and correlates with iron and callose depositions in cell walls, as well as an early stiffening of the cell wall. We identified the ferroxidase LPR1, the transcription factor STOP1 and the malate transporter ALMT1 as main actors of this growth inhibition. Together, these findings give insights into a new pathway regulating root growth.
