Multiple steps control immunity during the legume rhizobia symbiotic interaction

Our team is studying the genetic basis of the Legume-rhizobia interaction using insertion mutants from Medicago truncatula. We have isolated two plant genes that repress immunity during bacterial infection of symbiotic cells in the nodule organ. Our results show that a complex regulation of the immunity is required to allow the massive infection by rhizobium in order to have an efficient nitrogen fixation supporting the plant growth. The role of these two genes necessary for the efficient symbiosis will be descibe.
