Présentation
Notre équipe s’intéresse aux mécanismes moléculaires et aux voies de signalisation impliqués dans la régulation du transport racinaire de nitrate et du développement racinaire en réponse aux facteurs environnementaux. Nos projets de recherche s’articulent autour de deux axes principaux :
- L’identification et la caractérisation des mécanismes transcriptionnels et post-transcriptionnels ciblant les transporteurs racinaires de nitrate et leurs régulateurs. Cet axe intègre des approches allant de l’étude de la variabilité de l’expression du génome aux modifications post-traductionnelles de transporteurs de nitrate, en passant par l’étude des voies de signalisation associées, en particulier celles dépendantes de mécanismes redox.
- L’étude des réseaux de régulation et de signalisation qui contrôlent le transport racinaire de nitrate et le développement racinaire en réponse à la photosynthèse et l’élévation du CO2 atmosphérique. Cet axe a pour objectif de comprendre les mécanismes moléculaires, développementaux, et de signalisation à l’origine des interactions C/N, notamment dans un contexte de changement climatique.
Nous utilisons des approches intégratives incluant la génomique fonctionnelle, la physiologie moléculaire ou encore la biologie cellulaire. La plante modèle Arabidopsis thaliana est notre principal modèle d’étude, complémenté par des approches sur des plantes d’intérêt comme le blé ou la tomate.
Ces préoccupations sont au cœur d’une démarche globale pour une agriculture durable et respectueuse de l’environnement, qui doit s’inscrire dans un contexte d’adaptation aux changements climatiques.

Résultats marquants
- Depuis plus de 15 ans, l’équipe joue un rôle majeur dans la caractérisation fonctionnelle des transporteurs membranaires de nitrate chez A. thaliana (notamment NRT2.1), et dans l’élucidation des mécanismes qui en régulent l’expression et l’activité (régulation par le nitrate, le statut N et la photosynthèse).

- L’équipe a mis en évidence un mécanisme original de perception du nitrate par les racines, qui repose sur la dualité de fonction de transport/signalisation du transporteur (transcepteur) NRT1.1/NPF6.3. NRT1.1/NPF6.3 gouverne un grand nombre de réponses de la plante au nitrate, notamment celles impliquant la régulation d’autres transporteurs de nitrate et la modulation du développement des racines latérales.

- L’équipe a organisé la conférence EMBO Nitrogen2016 (3éme Symposium International sur la Nutrition Azotée des Plantes, Août 2016, Montpellier), et a assuré l’édition d’un numéro spécial de la revue Journal of Experimental Botany associé à cette conférence (Special Issue: Nitrogen Nutrition in Plants: Rapid Progress and New Challenges).
