The present study of the acarine fauna was carried out in the municipality of Papantla, Veracruz and its surroundings in the towns: Riva Palacio, Isla de Juan Rosas, Cuyuxquihui, Tajín, Plan de Hidalgo, Reforma Escolín and Rancho San Lorenzo. The samples were taken in June 2022 (beginning of rains), April 2023 (dry), and September 2023 (rains). At each collection site, soil samples weighing approximately 1 kg were collected, transferred to the «Anita Hoffmann» Acarology Laboratory at the Faculty of Sciences, UNAM, for processing in Berlese-type funnels and later mounted on slides with Hoyer’s medium. 46 families of the following Orders have been recorded in the study area: Ixodida, Mesostigmata, Trombidiformes and Sarcoptiformes. To date, 24 families and 35 genera recorded from the microregion. The families with the greatest presence so far are Erythraeidae, Trombidiidae, present in 5 of the 7 localities, followed by Uropodidae and Cunaxidae in 4 localities. Of the seven collection sites, the ones with the highest number of families were Reforma Escolín (23), Plan de Hidalgo (19) and Riva Palacio (18). As a new fact, in Reforma Escolín, we can cite the Family Pseudocheylidae which had not been previously registered in Mexico. It is believed that they are predatory mites of other small arthropods and may be a biological control of their populations. It can be concluded that these data constitute only a fraction of the region’s total fauna since many more families, genera and species have not yet been registered; it is necessary to carry out a systematic study, standardizing sample volume and select less disturbed sites. In future projects, it is proposed to conduct a more detailed study of each habitat separately, including vegetation, soil, relationships with other organisms, and water and soil contamination to examine the relationship between the region’s characteristic fauna and land uses.
