AB  - The oribatid mite family Achipteriidae Thor, 1929 is recorded in the Kingdom of Bhutan for the first time, and a new species Achipteria (Achipteria) bhutanica sp. nov. is described based on morphological examination of adult specimens collected from forest litter. This new species is characterized by an almost smooth body surface, broad lamellae with a single pointed lateral tooth, barbed bothridial setae and short notogastral setae. This is also the first published record of an oribatid mite from the country since the 1980s.
