In two instances the mites were synhospitalic with D. phalaenodectes. Both ears of the hosts were invaded, and the path of approach to the ears appeared to be subalar rather than dorsal as in phalaenodectes. The countertympanic septum was usually perforated, but the tympanic membranes and acoustic sensilla often escaped destruction, so that the moths retained acoustic sensitivity. Earlier records of Dicrocheles are in part revised, and a new species, D. hippeoides, is described from a unilateral colony in a plusiine noctuid from Louisiana. ER -
