Abstract

Dermatophagoides neotropicalis sp.n. is described from males and females. There are two types of males, normal and heteromorphic. The characters separating the new species from the closely related D. halterophilus (Fain and Feinberg) are emphasised. D. neotropicalis was recovered from dust from mattresses in Paramaribo, Surinam, in 1971. Dust samples from floors did not contain the mite.
