Abstract

A new genus, Campephilocoptes, in the subfamily Pyroglyphinae (Pyroglyphidae, Astigmata) and two new species, Campephilocoptes atyeoi and C. Paraguayensis, are described from Southe American Woodpeckers. It is supposed that the true habitat of these mites is merely the nests of the birds and not the birds themselves.
