Abstract

Six species of the feather mite genus Pteronyssoides, Hull have been collected from 27 of the 40 known species of eurafrican swallows. Three mite species are redescribed: P. nuntiaeveris (Beriese), P. obscurus (Berlese), P. ottuki Chirov and Mironov and three new species are described: P. dasyrhytidus, P. obscuroides, P. ptyctothyrus. The last mentioned species is restricted to the subfamily Pseudochelidoninae; the remaining species are known from the Hirundininae. Host associations are given for all mite species. Keys for males and females are provided.
