Abstract
A study on the oviposition pattern of the cattle tick Rhipicephalus (Digineus) bursa was carried out. Engorged females dropping from hosts were maintained in an incubator at 28 +/- 1° C, 75 +/- 5 % R.H. and 12/12 light/darkness cycle. The preoviposition period was 4.4 +/- 0.2 days. The mean ( +/- S.E.) number of eggs was 4,201 +/- 290.5 (min. 1,099, max. 7,710). The greatest egg production was recorded on day 2 (avg. 720.4 +/- 33.6 eggs/female). After oviposition the body weight !ost was over 75 per cent from the initial body weight.
