Abstract

In the upper tidal zone, which is uncovered most of the day, halacarid mites may numerically play a major role. Two genera, often present in algal films in this zone, are Rhombognathus and Isobactrus. One of the Rhombognathus species found in Singapore mangroves proved to be new to science. This species, Rhombognathus amplus n. sp., is described and compared with two closely related species, both known from mangroves, one from Singapore, the other from Hong Kong.
