Abstract

We describe 2 new species Prolixus corruginus sp. nov. and Prolixus forsteri sp. nov. and a new genus, Prolixus, of unusually narrow, elongate Tenuipalpidae (Acari: Tetranychoidea) parasitic on an Australian sedge, Gahnia aspera sensu lato (Cyperaceae). Species of Prolixus have so far been collected only in southeast Queensland. Species of Prolixus, gen. nov. share characters with the genus Afronychus Meyer including presence of dorsal setae e2 and nude genua IV, and with the genus Dolichotetranychus Sayed including nude genua III and IV.
