Abstract

Information is given of the biology and life histories of two species of oribatid mites in soils of Pennine moorland under a sub-arctic climate. By examination of the immature stages from monthly samples, it is shown that both species have a single annual generation. Platynothrus pellifer bred both in the spring and autumn, and Damaeus clavipes only in the autumn.
