Abstract

Pterophagoides et Byersalges (Falculiferidae, Pyerolichoidea) parasites plumicoles des Columbidae - Description or redescription of the five species included in two closely related genera: Pterophagoides, Gaud and Mouchet and Byersalges, Atyeo and Winchell. These species are: Pterophagoides bathmourus, Gaud and Mouchet, Pt. paradoxus, n. sp. and P. santanai, n. sp.; Byersalges talpacoti (Cerny) and B. phyllophorus, n. sp. The acquaintance of these three new species result in a better specification of the characters separating Byersalges from Pterophagoides and a confirmed validity of the former. Pt paradoxus was found on a domestic pigeon. This very surprising association may be the result of an accidental contamination or a recent transfer, the sual host of P. paradoxus being a wild Columbidae. But we were unable, so far, to ind this eventual wild host.
