A new Laelapine genus from an Australian Marsupial (Acari: Laelapidae)

The female and both nymphs of Chalaza novena gen. and sp. nov. are figured and described. This starkly reduced species lives deep in the ears of the red kangaroo, Megaleia rufa (Desmarest) (Macropodidae), in Australia.
