Ixodes ricinus massif armoricain mapping vegetation

Abstract

The distribution of the tick I. ricinus was studied in Brittany and surrounding regions (the Massif Armoricain ), western France, in relation to mapped vegetation units. 80 sites were investigated. I. ricinus was found in 77.5% of the studied sites, independent of the type of vegetation. The only marked effect of vegetation type concerns the littoral from St.-Malo to Lorient, where the positive rate was 35%; it would appear that the maritime environment is not conducive for the development of this species.
